Gravity Vector

Gravity Vector places the Z at the centre of an 8m high totem that features all the steps of wine making, from the growth of the plant to the drinking of the outcome, all interwoven in a complex laboratory of depending physical actions driven by science and design. Gravity has historically been one of the key sources of energy in wine making: many wineries have been constructed on topographical slopes taking advantage of the energy embedded in a liquid travelling downwards. This potential energy stored in liquids or other corpses is the force to be considered in an empirical and scientific working environment to organize the entire process of wine making along a perfect vertical axis. This installation sets the ground for the inception of an actual urban self-sufficient winery with a minimal footprint within the city: the Vertical Winery.

(*) This project has been developed by BODEGA Research Group, participated by SALA FERUSIC Architects and Appareil , and sits within the context of the Vertical Winery project, as a collaboration between the IAAC Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia and the AA Architectural Association School of Architecture (via AAVS Barcelona) from London which explores potential scenarios for the future in wine making.
